Hey Sandy,
I'm a NIV person too, but I must say, the old KJV has a certain appeal.

For me, without even needing to make a conscious choice, I find myself abiding in Christ, (remaining in Him if we use the NIV) and sharing my life with Him, chatting away to Him throughout the day.

Thanks for sharing all of those abiding scriptures, so encouraging.

Totally awesome Sandy.

I like to whip out the KJV sometimes, too. The language used can be so beautiful at times.

Our preacher has been teaching about some of these very same principles. About how we should leave the line open between us and God all the time and that He wants us to to abide in him always.

Hi Sandy...just stopped over to catch up with you.

Great post about abiding..something that I have thought a lot about lately. I recently re-read Secrets of the Vine, by Bruce Wilkinson...a wonderful book on this very thing.

To me... abiding is an attitude of the heart...being aware that the Lord is with us always. He walks with us and desires our conversations/prayers. It isn't really all that hard...just staying 'tuned in' and being aware that He is everywhere with us.

Mainly, I use NIV, just because I like the way things are worded and it's the version I've been reading for the last 17 years or so.

I also keep an Amplified Bible on hand to look up certain passages, but not to just read.

But when I'm researching to study something out, I use Biblegateway.com. There I can look up scriptures in ANY translation, and compare them. I like to do that to get the fullest meaning of the text.

BTW, my hubby is flying to Dallas as we speak. Wish I could have tagged along with him and had dinner with you. :( But alas, I have children who need me.

You know, I've never actually researched the word abide (thank you for that!) but I've always viewed it as a patient faithfulness. Laying back in God's arms and trusting His will and outcome.

I laughed at the praying without ceasing...I think I actually asked my counselor at the time if God was serious.

Now, I understand it more-- being prayerful and abiding is more a state of mind for me than a deliberate action or choice.

So I would say I don't have a "balance" between the two, because I function on abiding as a whole. Does that make sense?

P.S. Was just talking about this earlier today when it comes to writing...how many and what versions of the bible to you use Sandy? Just curious.
