Unconditional Love
If you took it all away
And before you
I was stripped
Bare and naked
And you saw my dishwater blonde hair
And my unblushed cheeks
And the lines that linger around my eyes
And you saw the fear that sometimes
Outlines my heart
And the bitterness that gnaws
On my soul
And the crass thoughts that sometimes seem to
Consume my racing mind.
And you heard the mean things that can
Pour forth from my lips
And the raw sins that I must
Confess to my Maker
And the judgments that transpire
Without me even being aware.
Would you still love me?
This unconditional love that exists –
Am I worthy?
Even when I fall down,
When I’m naked
And afraid.
When you see all there is to see –
Will you love me?
My imperfection kills me
But the pressure to keep up appearances
Chokes me even more.
Longing to be free and
Desperate for relief
From the chains that bind me
To the lies that say
One must be perfect in order
To be loved.
Jen Ferguson is a woman who does not know how to function without Jesus, her iPhone, or chai lattes. She is a marathoner who spends most of her days chasing after her two little girls and all the duties of her two part-time jobs. She is a woman who is fitting more comfortably in the robes of grace and who is shirking off the cloak of perfectionism.
She is also becoming a dear blogging friend of mine. You can read more of her amazing work at her blog, Finding Heaven.

What a beautiful poem from Jen! We do want to be loved for who we are, mistakes and all. I can relate. Thanks for featuring her!
I am happy to feature Jen. She's wonderful.
Thank you, Sandy, for having me here. So glad we are bloggy friends and so glad for your series on perfectionism!
would i still love you?
Yes.
Yes, i would.
You are incrediable adored by the Maker of the whole universe...and He thinks you are AWESOME!
I'm so thankful to have met Jen...and her poem is spot on! I am so glad that our Father loves us unconditionally!
Beautiful poem, Jen!! And, even though I've never met you in person, yes, I would still love you.
I think this is a very deep fear of people though and it is exactly what keeps us ( me ) stuck in a rut...from challenging tasks, we take fewer risks and are less creative than those who aren't perfectionist. For me - I agree...it is hearing the feedback or the editing that I'm not " good enough " and therefore I never really move on in freedom in life.
I love you Jen...just like you are and you bring up a real heart in your poem...isn't it the best truth to know that HE really does love us knowing He sees everything when humans cannot?
Thanks for the beautiful poem Jen! What an amazing thing this internet is to have two random women who I don't know, but love reading find each other and guest post!
I love blogs for that very reason. God truly uses all things!
Love Jen and I loved her poem. I could have written every line myself.
No surprise that she is one of my newest peeps too... emailed to both of you almost all day the other day.
Sheesh. sisters.

And I love this. It resonates deep with me. God showed me a beautiful picture of unconditional love this week and I might just have to share sometime. ;D
